For Children with Autism

The Dooley School at St. Joseph’s Villa

The Dooley School at St. Joseph’s Villa (for middle- and high-school students with learning disabilities and behavioral issues) and The Dooley School at Cherokee Road (an elementary-school program for students with a variety of learning disabilities) are special education programs offered by St. Joseph’s Villa. Each program accepts children with autism, although many of these children also have a history of emotional disturbances. The Dooley School at St. Joseph's Villa also has dedicated classrooms for children with Asperger's Syndrome.

Students are placed into the programs by their local school system; a placing agent in the school system determines that the child would benefit more from attending one of the St. Joseph’s Villa programs than from attending the child’s local school.

Each program contains both academic and behavioral components. Counselors are on staff to help students better manage problem behaviors.

Each program’s goal is to prepare the child for returning to his or her local school.
