The Virginia Housing Alliance (VHA) and local partners have announced the availability of nine AmeriCorps VISTA Member positions to support local planning groups, which are responsible for ending homelessness in Virginia, and homeless service providers. Our Flagler Housing Resource Center in Petersburg is one of the sites seeking a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA Member to start February 20, 2017.
AmeriCorps VISTA Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency, and build permanent infrastructure to help the organization or agency more effectively bring individuals and communities out of poverty.
The VHA VISTA Project provides VISTA Members with the knowledge and skills necessary to support the transition to sustainable and more effective homeless response systems in Virginia communities. VISTA Members are placed in Continuums of Care (CoCs) and service providers across the state and provide key leadership, guidance, and direction to help VHA’s local partners achieve greater impact for their clients experiencing and at risk of homelessness.
