While the CRC offers a “no wrong door” approach for anyone to access mental health care, services are tailored to youth. Because admissions to the CRC will not extend beyond 23 hours, it is not a bed-based program.
Our dedicated mental health professionals will provide the appropriate assessments and referrals and ensure smooth transitions to community-based providers.

Serving the Region 4 catchment area of Central Virginia, the CRC tailors services to youth ages 7 to 17 who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Our holistic approach to care means that we serve the child and their family.

Upon an individual’s arrival, they will receive an initial screening to determine appropriateness for CRC services or other resources.

All individuals are discharged from the CRC within 23 hours of admission. Prior to discharge, staff, families, and youth jointly determine the next appropriate level of care.
The transition of care is a collaborative and person-centered process, emphasizing the individual’s recovery and successful reintegration into their community or ongoing care setting. Staff will make connections to community resources and service providers to ensure continuity of treatment. Family education and support services may be provided to ensure a stable environment at home.
Youth and families receive quick access to care in a warm, personal environment. Our newly renovated building is designed to provide a safe and supportive space conducive to stabilizing the immediate crisis and developing plans for ongoing support. With dedicated spaces for assessment, therapeutic activities and family support, the CRC prioritizes the comfort and well-being of each individual we serve.
The CRC is located in Henrico County, on the 82-acre campus of St. Joseph’s Villa.
The CRC operates in partnership between St. Joseph’s Villa, Henrico County Mental Health & Developmental Services, and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
The launch of the CRC marks the Villa’s second regional partnership to provide youth with critical mental health services. Our Crisis Stabilization Unit opened on campus in 2012 in partnership with Richmond Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA), and also serves Region 4.
Located on the south end of the Villa campus, the CRC is in close proximity to our Crisis Stabilization Unit.
