Villa Block Party celebrates five-year partnership with VCU mentors
The Villa Block Party returned for a 5th year thanks to our VCU student mentors. In a partnership between our Career and Transition Services and VCU’s Focused Inquiry service-learning class, VCU mentors led Villa students in college tours and collaborative projects throughout the year, and helped prepare them for success after high school. The block party celebrated the enriching experience they shared. All Villa schools and programs were invited to come out and enjoy the cookout with music, fun and games.
Every VCU student mentor gave 40 hours of service to Villa by the end of the year. Their engagement helped introduce Villa students, many who may never have imagined themselves at college, to a welcoming college community.
We thank the Department of Focused Inquiry at VCU for their partnership, and our Career and Transition Services, Culinary and Facilities teams for making the party a blast. We’re already looking forward to next year!
